Community Engagement Committee Roles And Responsibilities

Purpose

The Community Engagement Committee is critical to fulfill the mission and vision of Excelsior Village Academies. The Community Engagement Committee is convened by and reports to the Board of Directors. The Committee ensures that Excelsior Village Academies is an active partner with all stakeholder groups including students, families, and community leaders. The Committee serves as an expression of the school’s values and commitment to being a value-add to the community.

Appointments and Composition

Appointments of the Chair and members of the Community Engagement Committee shall be made annually by the Chair of the Board with the advice of the Chief Executive Officer, and Board.
Additional committee members may be appointed and need not be members of the Board of Directors. Given the nature of this Committee, it may be beneficial to have volunteers from the community that can support Excelsior Village Academies’ mission, vision and commitment to active community engagement, impact, equity, and service.

Responsibilities

The Community Engagement Committee is charged with focusing on partnerships and
community involvement. This includes cultivating relationships, and engaging board members, staff, and volunteers in community activities.

Specifically, the Community Engagement Committee:

Works with the Chief Executive Officer to support the school’s community engagement plan.
Ensures Excelsior Village Academies operates with collective decision making which provides opportunities for communities to contribute their voices to school-based decisions, as appropriate.
Supports the Chief Executive Officer in partnership development which involve cultivating new relationships and/or improving existing relationships within various communities.
Supports capacity building initiatives that build on community strengths so that communities and individuals can enhance their ability to influence their physical, social, natural, economic, and cultural environments
Distinguishes Excelsior Village Academies from others in the field.
Helps educate Board members about the Excelsior Village Academies’ community engagement plans and opportunities to engage in at the local, state, and national level.
Represents the Board in the community alongside the Chief Executive Officer.
Ensures the school meets enrollment targets annually by supporting recruitment strategies.

Excelsior Village Academies seeks candidates to serve on its governing board of directors in the capacity of Human Resources, Corporate Law, and Co-Chair. The purpose of the board is to ensure that the organization is executing its Mission, pursuing its Vision, and producing outcomes within parameters established by law, the Charter Agreement, and the board’s
policies.

Strong candidates will:

be committed to advancing school’s Mission, Vision, and Values;
have enthusiasm for classical education and the school choice movement;
possess domain expertise in leadership, education, finance, human resources, administration, law, real estate, technology, political advocacy, or fundraising; and
have the capacity to meet the statutory and other requirements of the role.
